My best friend, Marie, has a wonderful son named Dawson. He is best buddies with Hailey and Ezra. I begged Marie to bring Dawson to come spend the night at my house to help me get ready for Ez's birthday party and Kyla's (my sister-in-law) baby shower. It was actually awesome that Marie came because she just had surgery on her foot a week ago and has been laid up a bit. While Marie and I were only able to chat between watching, actually refereeing, but the kids had a fabulous time together! Marie is the type of friend that would help you out in a pinch and make it fun. When I think of my friendship with Marie, I am reminded of what God says in Ecclesiastes 4:9 & 10a "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work. If one falls down, his friend can help him up." Marie has helped me a great deal through my divorce and becoming a single mom. There is no way that I could ever thank her for all she has done for me and my kids. She listens to me quite often and she never judges me. She is honest and open about what she thinks God may want me to do in a variety of situations. Marie constantly points me back to God and I need that reminder! The parties went very well and only because of my best friend who helped behind the scenes. I am so lucky to be able to experience this friendship with her and I thank God for her. It is true what they say, God knows exactly what we need and when we need it. Thanks goodness!
The kids took a bath together and played with bath paint. Marie warned me what a mess it would be and she wasn't lying. But the kids loved it and that made it worth it. After all three little ones were clean and in their pajama's, we lined up their sleeping bags on my bed. We decided to let them watch a movie, IF they could behave and NOT jump on the bed. Ezra was out like a light! As Marie and I sat downstairs chatting, we heard the pitter patter of two four year olds feet. Yes, we did eventually get them to sleep, but at that point Marie and I were so tired that we went to bed. (So much for chatting...) What an awesome slumber party! We can't wait until the next one!

Hey, Gretchen! Marie connected me with your Blog. I'm over here in tears reading the sweet words you've written about her. Course I'm totally biased and in agreement! I thank God for her every day and I'm glad you are the beneficiary of her sweetness and faithful friendship. You're very blessed. I miss her so bad it hurts. Thanks for honoring her in this way. xoxo "Mom"
